We are pleased to announce the preliminary schedule of authors, galleries and countries, whose best textile works will be presented throughout the 11th Prague Patchwork Meeting.
Apart from individual artists from all over the world, Prague regularly hosts national collections, which will in 2017 be represented primarily by quilts from Southern Korea. From the Nordics, we will be displaying works of the Norwegian group Art Quilt STING and from the Middle East a duo from Israel Shoshi Rimer and Bella Kaplan.
The quilting nation closest to our boarders, Germany, will be after a number of years once again represented by the amazing artist Pia Welsch, who is always keen to promote new techniques and will bring her unique collections of kimonos. Those, who are looking to work with colours, prints and new materials, will be excited about another German quilter Jutta Hellbach. An outstanding Dutch artist, Hilda van Schaardenburg will be returning to Prague as a solo artist, accompanied by Corinne Zambeek. All artists will accompany their exhibitions by exclusive workshop, which may be pre-ordered from November 2016. Details will be available on our webpage.
The international collections, offered by PPM each year, will be incredibly attractive in 2017. The new SAQA selection mirrors the current direction of modern textile techniques and is purely creative, while the collection Stuff for Thought discusses issues faced in developed countries, uneven conditions on the labour market and other topics. Very interesting topic is covered by the new project by Gudrun Heinz joined by Sarah Schultz, the common female theme is responded to in a direct way through a collection MEN.
2017 will surely welcome a lot of visitors interested in the challenges open for international artists. Modern techniques and in particular an innovative elaboration of textiles is condition of the STRUCTURES challenge. The traditional CURVES, on the other hand, will be a challenge for classical quilters. Art Quilt Club CZ has its own challenge set for 2017, VELVET quilts will surely offer a new perspective on this rather uncommon material
After the huge success of the collection 1001 nights with an ongoing rotation throughout Europe, will after a break continue the joint project of Bernina and PPM, which confronts European quilters with exotic fabrics and colours. The collection called ORIENT has already secured a European and Asian tour and the realization is assisted by quilters from Germany, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, United Kingdom and Kazakhstan.
Cut-outs from old Prague curated by M. Listikova will connect quilting with the attractive tourist destination and home of PPM – Prague.
The two largest Czech groups are also preparing their galleries: Art Quilt Harbour will present collection TREES and Ten to Twelve their last works.
Bernina will be following up the children oriented workshops held in 2016 with an international project PatchKids.
We can already promise you galleries by leading Czech quilters, the widest selection of traditional as well as modern quilts made in the Czech Republic (competition Czech Quilt) and a special project aimed at traditional patchwork.
